Malygos
Eye of Eternity - Malygos boss fight video
Raid Balance
1 tank, 3 healers is ideal. Note that we beat this timer with a full minute
to spare -- this is with my off-tank in the raid as well as several brand
new 80s. Beating this timer is 100% about the sparks, and while gear will
help a lot, it's not enormously necessary. You do, however, want all of your
raiders to have ~18k health minimum while fully buffed to handle vortex and
varying amounts of raid damage.
Phase 1 Notes
When Malygos is landing, he doesn't seem to register threat/damage for the
first few seconds. Burning long cooldowns such as Bloodrage and hitting him
too early isn't necessarily good. Have your raid give you a couple seconds
until he's clearly facing you.
Like several of the Blue dragons, Malygos has no tail or cleave attack to worry about. For this reason, you can move him without too much fear of hitting other raiders (though you still need to pay attention to his conal breath).
You have plenty of time to move him away from sparks and force the sparks to cross over the raid. This is why I move around the edge of the inner circle, which also prevents him from facing the raid for a breath. When there are two up (the one from before the vortex and after) and when they are coming from adjoining quarters, I triangulate Malygos' position so they're both forced to cross the center.
It is possbible for Malygos to be within reach of melee who're in the center spark field while still allowing Hunters to attack from within the spark. This will happen naturally so long as you use the outer edge, though if you have problems, cut the corners a bit tighter.
While Death Grip from Death Knights is a means of stacking spark fields and while this strategy will work for some guilds, it will not be a recommended strategy given that you're relying on one specific class and you're making an entire raid move instead of just the tank.
With that said, tanks who are not used to strafing, mouse movement, camera control, and effective keybinds need to step up their game. Fortunately this website is here to help with that.
Phase 2Notes
Malygos will take to the air and there will be a whole new set of mobs to
tned with at this point. There are Scions, which are caster and do not do
much damage due to the anti-magic shields, which will be covered later. The
other mobs are Nexus lords. These will be tanked by the tank inside the anti-magic
shield. the anti-magic shield is a dome like shield that is dropped from above.
As soon as a new one opens, you will need to move to it quickly.
Now with the Nexus lords, the tank will tend to need to hold 2 of them at one time. You will need to dps these down as quickly as possible. When a Nexus lord or Scion is killed, he will drop his flying disc. Melee will need to grab these discs to be able to get up and do any kind of damage durning this fight. It will be important to get an order as to who will be grabbing these discs first. Now when dealing with the Scions, melee will of course need to be on a disc to be able to do any damage to these mobs, but things like spell reflect will also work on them if you are on the ground.
At certain intervals, Malygos will be going a Deep Breath attack, for which you will be getting a warning across your screen. ALL raiders on the ground will need to make sure that you are in one of the anti-magice shields before this hits the ground. If you are outside of the shield, you will take a lot of damage. Now you will still take damage inside, but it will be reduced greatly. One thing to be aware of though, with a shield is dropped in the same area of another one, there will be a throw back happen so you will need to be ready to quickly move back inside the shield.
Now while inside these shields, you will need to stand right in the center stacked on each other. Sometimes these shields get pretty small, even only shoulder high sometimes, but they still do the job, until a new one is dropped.
Phase 3 Notes
Now during this phase, you will have the help of the Red Dragonflight. Each
player will have pet bar will a list of spells to use. An important thing
to remember is that healers will need to heal the drakes and not the players
in this fight.
VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you are running any interface mods, you will need to make sure that your personal pet bar is active. If you have not turned it off with any settings, it should already be on and you have nothing to worry about.
While on these drakes, you will have a health bar and an engery bar, much like playing a rogue or feral druid.
On your pet bar, you will have the following buttons:
1 - Flame spike = stacks combo points
2 - Engulf in Flames = massive DoT that stacks - uses 5 combo points, keep
this stacked
3 - Revivify (healers) = HoT, it also builds combo points.
4 - Life Burst = uses combo points, AoE heal
5 - Flame Shield = uses 25 energy
Gernerally, this fight is a one healer and nine dps fight. The healer can use Life burst to AoE heal the group.
During this fight, Malygos will use an attack called Surge. If you are being tageted you will need to use your Flame shield to keep alive. This used 25 energy so you will need to make sure that you have atleast 25 energy at all times to ba able to use this.
There will also be Lightning fields that wil show up. It is generally be easier for the healer for watch for these and call out to move when they are incoming. This is not a must to the healer to do so others can call it out.
The biggest this to remember is that this is a big dps race. the more attacks you have on him, the better chance there is to down him.
